Winter News from Christopher Spitzmiller

After the rollercoaster ride that was 2020, I hope everyone is off to
a great start in 2021!  Mid-January has offered the gift of light past
5:00 pm, a wonderful sign that spring is coming, and the past few
months have included quiet time at home.  This has afforded an
opportunity to catch up on all areas of domestic life at my home,
Clove Brook Farm, where we are always busy with activities.  Right now
we are starting seeds for shallots, onions, and spring violas in trays
under grow lights in the garage.  Last year we installed a new
vegetable garden here at the farm and had great luck growing shallots
from seed, something we hope to do again this year!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we have lots of beautiful gifts in stock and ready to ship! Our treasure trove consists of an assortment of paired lamps, chic cache pots (in square and round shapes done in faux bois patterns), column candlesticks, and tableware including our sets of plates, bowls, and mugs. Call or email to check stock.

I’m adding a recipe for Grand Marnier Soufflé to the blog, the recipe
for which comes from my friend and cooking teacher Gail Monaghan. This
dessert soufflé is really delicious, and I promise it is not as hard
to make as you would think.  Practice will get you nearly everything
in life, and that can be applied to soufflés both sweet and savory. I
have now made these so many times, I pull together the ingredients
without even looking at the recipe!  Give it a try, and post your
results on Instagram with the hashtag #inspiredbyspitzmiller - it
makes for the perfect Valentines' Day dessert.

Grand Marnier Soufflé Recipe

I've included the recipe for a savory cheese soufflé in my book A Year
at Clove Brook Farm.  You can order a signed copy on our website, and
we will also be planning an in person book signing at our pop-up shop
for the weekend of March 12-13th.  More information to follow!
