Washington DC Event:  The Pottery Jam and Pottery on the Hill

Washington DC Event:  The Pottery Jam and Pottery on the Hill

The metro DC area will be alive with potters the weekend of November 13 through 16.  Pottery on the Hill is an annual event sponsored by DC’s local clay community.

The weekend kicks off with The Pottery Jam in the North Hall of Eastern Market at 225 7th Street SE.  Eastern Market is a hub for good food and community events, drawing from both the local community and tourists visiting the nation’s capital.  From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, ceramic artists will be on hand along with local studios.  The evening will be a lively event of demonstrations, storytelling, food, and fun.

Renowned artists Dan Finnegan, Stacy Snyder, Mark Shapiro, Sam Taylor, Catherine White, Michael Kline, and Doug Peltzman will offer live demonstrations, both individually and collectively.  Event sponsors and local community clay studios will have representatives present to answer questions and offer advice.  Musicians will add a spark to the atmosphere with live music.  Patrons will enjoy food and beverages while hoping to win one of many prizes, such as classes and workshops.

The Pottery Jam is sponsored by Eastern Market Pottery, district clay center, Clayworks Supplies, Standard Clay Company, and Pottery on the Hill.

Registration is free but registration is required.  Parking is available on the street.

After the evening of festivities at the Eastern Market, participants can spend the weekend enjoying Pottery on the Hill.  This annual show, curated by potter Dan Finnegan, features the works of top ceramic artists from around the US.  As the holiday season gets underway, the show offers the perfect opportunity to start holiday shopping or add to one’s own collection.  Located in the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital at 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, the show includes 18 artists who focus on functional pottery.

The show opens at 6:30 p.m. Friday night, November 14, with a ticketed preview reception.  The weekend show is free, but tickets are recommended.  Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
